LUNA PARK 2025
Luna Park is a visual narrative about the lives of Europe’s new mobile generation. In this project, Xueling continue to explore the idea of a “fluid state of living” by photographing portraits of young people she met in London and during her travels across Europe. The series delves into themes of transience, identity, and intimacy, using direct flash and a visual texture that lies between digital and film to capture a state that feels both private and exposed, fragile yet free.
Many of the subjects work in the fashion industry or lead nomadic lives, moving between countries and embracing constant motion and exploration. Among them are international students considering whether to stay in the UK after graduation, Eastern European women living in Germany on refugee visas, a Chinese artist based in Paris, a fashion designer who moved from Spain to London, a Serbian woman working in Montenegro, postgraduate students doing part-time jobs in the UK after graduation, and digital nomads traveling across the world.
“Luna Park” is a generic name for amusement parks across Europe, which has gradually evolved into a cultural symbol of fleeting and illusory joy. In this project, Luna Park represents a kind of “foreign land” — a temporary resting place, a heterotopia filled with displacement, illusion, and uncertainty.
